My Top 6 Favorite Podcasts for Small Business Owners
As an editor, I spend thousands of hours in front of the computer every year…thousands! As I write this, even I can’t believe what I just typed. I know I’m not the only one. TONS of jobs require hours upon hours spent at a computer. Editors, photographers, graphic designers, social media managers…the list goes on and on. As a small business owner who works from my home, it can get tedious if I don’t have anything interesting or new to listen to. Some days, I play movies in the background, or have a good Pandora station playing, but let’s face it: it gets old REAL quick. So last year, I started looking for new podcasts to listen to and I am HOOKED! Podcasts are amazing because they allow me to continue my education while I’m working. Not only that, but it’s FREE education! It’s a win-win!
I knew when I started my journey that I wanted to find a great group of podcasts. Podcasts that were really high-quality and tackled a variety of useful subjects. So today, after a year of searching, I’m revealing my top 6 favorite podcasts that I love listening to!
*Side note: I linked the websites where you can find these podcasts, but they’re all available in iTunes for free! Just search for them in the store and subscribe to stay up-to-date when new episodes come out!
Jenna Kutcher’s Goal Digger Podcast is one of my favorite podcasts to listen to. Most of the time, it’s just Jenna talking about her personal feelings, experiences, and advice on a particular topic. And boy, does she have really great advice! One of the reasons I love this one so much is that Jenna gives really great information and advice to her audience. She doesn’t shy away from talking about how she feels about difficult topics, and she always lays everything out in a clear, easy-to-understand way. I have learned a TON from this podcast, and I definitely recommend you checking this one out!
The Creative Empire™ Podcast is hosted by Reina Pomeroy and Chritina Scalera, and it is great for the creative business owner! Each episode is an interview with a different person, which is one of the reasons why I like it so much. Not only are the topics great, but you get so many perspectives from this podcast. Reina and Christina ask thought-provoking questions to their guest, and it’s always a great conversation to listen to. Love this one, make sure you check it out!
Christy Wright is a motivational speaker and the author of The Business Boutique. Her podcast focuses mainly on women in business, which I really love. (Sorry guys). Episode 3 of her podcast talks about the mindset that so many women have about accepting money for their work. This episode really stuck with me, because I struggled with that for SO long. She talks about relatable subjects and understands what women in business go through. She encourages women in business and really strives to help them succeed in their ventures. Give this one a listen, for sure!
Jessica Rasdall is one of my favorite small business owners that I follow. If you’re not familiar with her story, I recommend checking out her book Shattered because it is incredible. If that book sounds familiar, it’s because it was on my reading list this year. I promise, one of these days, I’ll get a review up 🙂
Jessica is a motivational speaker who uses the art of storytelling to inspire others. She also coaches small business educators on how to speak to their audience. A few months ago, she started this podcast and I was SO excited. She mainly covers topics about speaking as a small business owner, so it may not be for everyone. However, if you’re ever interested in public speaking someday, this is definitely a podcast you’ll want to check out!
I love listening to Dave Ramsey. If you don’t know who Dave Ramsey is, he’s the owner of Ramsey’s Solutions and creator of Financial Peace University. He’s the author of multiple books like The Total Money Makeover and Entreleadership, and gives financial advice to everyday people who are struggling to get control of their finances.
Dave Ramsey is the reason Zach and I have been able get married, buy a house, start a successful business, GROW that business, and pay for Zach to get his graduate AND a doctoral degree — all while paying off our student loan debt (and without taking out any other loans). To us, that’s a pretty big deal! Zach and I are hooked on this podcast! Sure, Dave occasionally mentions some religious principles into his financial teaching, but I firmly believe that this podcast is great for anyone — no matter what your religious beliefs are!
Lauren Hooker hosts the Ellechat Podcast, and I’ve really enjoyed listening to her content. This is one of the newer ones I recently stumbled upon, but so far I really like the advice Lauren gives. Lauren is a graphic designer, so she frequently covers the topics of graphics and branding. Some of the episodes she’s done include tutorials on how to get started with Squarespace and Adobe Illustrator, as well as how to focus on making your brand known. This is really different from the other podcasts I mentioned above, so I definitely recommend giving this one a listen!
*Side note: The Ellechat Podcast is located in iTunes, but I only see a limited amount of episodes. If you visit the link I provided above, then you will find TONS of episodes.
