Creating a Great Client Experience
One of the topics I get asked about the most is how to create a great client experience. While there are a LOT of things you can do to create a great experience for your clients, one of the big things I like to do is send them a gift box at the end of the year. It’s a small way to thank them for choosing you to be their editor. Remember: there are TONS of other editors they could have chosen to work with this year, but they chose you! That’s a big deal, and it’s important to recognize that!
I’ve gone through some trial-and-errors with client gift boxes over the last few years. They can be difficult if you’re just starting out and you don’t have a large budget. If you find yourself in this position, then I recommend maybe just sending out a gift card. Gift cards are perfectly acceptable gifts to give! You can even make it personal by including a small, hand-written thank you note.
Keep it Professional
This should go without saying, but if you’re going to do a gift box for your clients, make sure you keep it professional! Doing things yourself can be really great, but it doesn’t always work out the way we plan. Last year (2016) was the first year I did gift boxes. I put them together myself in order to stay within my budget. When it was all said and done, they looked WAY different than I thought they would.
If I’m being completely honest with you…they didn’t look very good. I had to use a lot of bubble wrap and extra padding so things wouldn’t break. My clients appreciated the gesture, but I’d be lying if I said I thought they looked super professional. I wanted to step it up this year! So I went looking for someone who would be able to help me create the perfect gift for my clients.

I reached out to Johnna at Twila & Co. to see if there was anything she could to help me create a better client experience this year. She did NOT disappoint! Not only was she able to get everything put together quickly, but she was able to put together a beautiful gift box within my budget! The best part: she customized everything to include my branding! Each item had a customized sticker with my logo, and I was able to include a personalized card.
I even got to choose the popcorn flavors, the bath bomb and the soap scent! I had dozens of options to choose from, which made it feel like even more of a customized experience. To top it all off, she was able to send each gift box directly to every single one of my clients. Photo editors — I don’t have to tell you how big of a deal that is for us! As a private photo editor, my clients are spread all throughout the country. I didn’t have to worry about stuffing boxes, taking them to the post office, or packing them correctly — she did it all for me! My clients loved their box of goodies this year, and it’s hard to imagine that I’ll ever be using anyone else from now on!
