I'm Emily!

I'm a NC girl born & raised, a wife to my college sweetheart, mom to my sweet daughter Caroline & fur-mom to my floof, Riley. I love summer days at the beach, fall weekends in the mountains, & everyday in between exploring new corners of the world. I live for Italian food, tacos & margaritas. Currently taking life one adventure at a time.

In case you missed it last week…

Most of you know the story of HOW I became a private photo editor. Last week, though, I realized most of you do not know what I was doing PRIOR to becoming my own boss. A few days ago on my Insta-stories, I talked a little bit about how I got my start in this industry. I’ve obviously done a poor job of talking about my work before I became a private photo editor, because a lot of you were completely surprised. In my defense, I was never allowed to release any images from projects I worked on while I was there! After compiling a Pinterest board with a few images of my work, I decided to share it with my Instagram friends. Don’t worry if you missed it, because today, I’m sharing it with you!

My Journey to Becoming a Private Photo Editor

My story begins my sophomore year of college when I was studying Textile Management at NC State. I came back to my dorm one morning, called my mom, and told her I was unhappy. I wanted to pursue Commercial Photography at Appalachian State. After some serious discussion, my parent finally agreed to let me switch schools and majors. It wasn’t until the beginning of my senior year that I realized my passion for digital retouching.

The summer before my final semester, I did an internship at a company called Splash Worldwide in Portland, Oregon. After the summer was over, they offered me a job after graduation. So in January 2014, I shipped my car, packed 4 bags, and flew to the West Coast. It was difficult being away from my family, friends, and boyfriend, but I *LOVED* the work I was doing out there. I also loved the people I worked with (seriously, they were the best)!

The video below barely scratches the surface of the work I did out there, but it will give you a general idea! In it, I show you my office, where my desk was, and I’ll even explain what my job duties were. I had a really good time recording this video, and I am going to start recording tutorials for you in future posts! So please feel free to subscribe to my channel if you don’t want to miss out on those!
